It is once again time to visit the “What Pam Noticed” page to observe my latest reveal.

I took this particular picture when we visited friends in Idaho. The location was close to the border of Montana.

How does it make you feel?

The “Box Camera” style (1900-1960′s) in this photograph makes me feel specifically connected to a western movie somehow. I think of times when as a family on a Saturday afternoon we would join my father on the couch with our blankets and watch old westerns, The Lone Ranger and Sky King.

I don’t know about you . . . . . but my baby loves a western movie. Enjoy the view.

Fall’s Focus

Earlier than expected, but always on time . . . we are experiencing those elegant, gently warmed days sandwiched between the cold invigorating mornings and the crisp cool evenings. Fall has arrived and every year I am fooled again, completely thrown off guard as if I was experiencing it for the first time, yet fully engaged because it is so familiar. Have you observed how still, calm, and silent the days are at this time of year?

I get inspired to plan and create so that’s exactly what I’ve done. It is my focus this fall to display and sell my photographic art for the first time locally, in a store, during the month of October, sharing it with others who enjoy and appreciate fine art. I selected two wrapped canvases in portrait orientation, measuring 16 x 20 with a rich chocolate border. Click image for larger view.

For those of you who enjoy visiting the “What Pam Noticed” page, I posted a new picture for you to view.

There are rich textures to observe in this image such as wood, paint, brick and earthenware. Take it all in and savor the moment. I am always amazed at how one can be so satisfied when the eyes view seemingly insignificant pieces of natural elements. Somehow the combination of color, light and texture create a delightful experience for the senses as well as a beautiful backdrop for a simple pot of flowers. Don’t forget to share the view with others who would love to discover something with rich detail.

My Caravaggio

When I first launched this website, I wrote in my “About the Artist” page that I was deeply inspired by my personal discovery of an italian artist from the past named Caravaggio.

Over time I’ve noticed . . . how I have incorporated some of his perceptions and focus into my photography without full awareness of what I was actually doing. His art always reflects the stark, realistic nature of life i.e., rotting fruit in a bowl, withered leaves and dirt under the fingernails. He never tried to perfect what he saw but to represent it with full disclosure.

In reviewing my works during the editing process, I will notice imperfections or some area of the image I think needs to be cropped. Sometimes I find it even after I have produced the final product. I was quite surprised that I actually see it in the majority of my photos. It is what I have determined to be “MY CARAVAGGIO” influence, his stamp on my style.

I watched an interesting series on the “Halogen” channel called “Aperture.” It features celebrities learning from artists how they go through their creative process. Recently I listened to a photographer describe the moment before a mindful photographer snaps a shot. He or she feels what is right and inherently knows when to do it. I believe it has been referred to as “having an eye for photography.” You get the image in view, move the lens around until you find that sweet spot and you just know when the time is right.

Here are 2 examples of how my images display this stamp on my style. One is in the “Edibles” gallery. Notice the upper right hand corner shows the edge of the cardboard box, a perceived imperfection. But this reflects the marketplace where it was displayed and notice how it actually ties in with the vertical line and ruffled edges of the pasta. The second one is in the “Italy” gallery. Technically, the whole left side might be considered an oversight in the cropping process. But in reality, it reflects the rushed, tight quarters of the rooftop setting in Florence where one was squeezing in to sit down, hence the uneven tablecloth and hastily slapped down newspaper give one a slight sense of tension just along the edge of this overall peaceful and inviting image. “MY CARAVAGGIO” is there, but it is not the focal point.

Have fun with it . . . kind of like trying to spot Alfred Hitchcock in one of his movies.

The Dust Has Settled (did it really?)

Now that “The Store” is open and the foundation has been set, finally the “dust has settled.” But, what that really means is . . . the time has come to “make the dust fly” once more.

I know that life isn’t static and neither is my work or anyone’s for that matter. I have observed that one can take a break to celebrate certain short-term goals, but not for too long or they will never reach the long-term goals. However I will mention that one of the rewards for reaching my goal is that I will have more time to capture new images and bring them to your attention in a creative way.

So onward and upward. When you visit “The Store” be sure to take a look at the other projects being worked on. Of course there is ALWAYS something of interest to observe on the “What Pam Noticed” page. Don’t forget to check that out too.

However you choose to express it . . . . . “The Store” is now officially open.

I must honestly say, I think I am at a loss for words. This day has been a long time in coming. To be exact, it has been 350 calendar days since I generated this website and that doesn’t include the groundwork leading up to that point.

Speaking of “groundwork” . . . (there goes my theory on being at a loss for words) . . . I would be incomplete if I didn’t give special mention to my loyal friends and business mentors Joel and Sue Canfield (Bizba6.com, Spinhead.com, CanfieldofDreams.com, Somedaybox.com, FindingWhy.com). They have personified the two most critical environments I needed to succeed; a constant and nurturing influence throughout my learning curve, along with knowing just when to let go of the handle bars, allowing me to find my way here. Thank you for that.

Inside The Store

Today I have the pleasure of presenting you with my “Signature Notecard Sets.” I selected a wide variety to hopefully satisfy most of your interests and of course more will be added over time.

I initially anticipated having a more extensive selection of art forms available for you to choose from at this time, however, here are additions to expect in the future: Single Cards; Desk Calendars; Wrapped Canvas Wall Art and “The Paint Box” where you can add to the creative process.

I want to whet your appetite for the “Fine Art Photography” that will be available to suit YOUR fancy the minute the store opens.

The first will be my “signature” notecard sets. These are a passion of mine which I will delight in sharing with you. Each set is purposefully “themed” and “titled” to evoke a certain nuance, feel or distinction.

The second will be desk calendars. These are not the kind that lay flat on your desk like a blotter, soon to be forgotten under a heap of “to do lists” or overflowing files. No, these will be the type to be enjoyed and relished. Having it’s own stand, it will always be a work of art to enhance your visual space.

Third, will be wrapped canvas wall art. These will consist of photographs that have been transformed into various mediums such as, watercolor sketches, oil paintings, pencil drawings, chalk drawings, pastel drawings, etc. My hope is that you will always be able to find just that “special” piece that you’ve been searching for.

Taking Stock

Spring is in the air and it seems fitting that “the store” will be in full bloom during this particular season.

Blueprints are in the final stages . . .

The printer and photo lab have been selected. I have created my logo and packaging materials are 99% staged. Images have been selected for fine art photography creations. At this point in time, I am working on the technical aspects of placing those images on the store page and keenly picking up the pace in order to share them with you.

For some reason I couldn’t sleep past 3:30 this morning. Every once in a while that happens. I’ve learned over the years, that it’s best not to fight it, but to embrace it as an opportunity. I usually will start with coffee, catch the news, shopping channels, cooking and decorating shows, then move on to something special I’ve had on my to do list.

Something close to my heart is sharing interesting and unique pictures with you on the “What Pam Noticed” page. Before the sun rises and time gets away from me I’ve selected a shot from my visit to the koi pond at the Japanese Gardens in Central Park, San Mateo, California. I anticipate that you will take pleasure in viewing it as I have.
